May 2013 Prime Challenge - Rules
Here are the rules for our photo challenge:
1.) - You must take 1 photo a day, every day, and send it to me to put on the
website. You have from midnight to midnight on each day, starting on midnight
May 1st, ending on midnight May 31st (That means 31 pictures total). You don't
have to upload it the day you take it, but you do have to take it that day. Try
to upload your photos within 2-3 days of taking them (please don't wait a week).
2.) - This is a prime challenge, you must use 1 prime lens for this challenge.
You can use other lenses for other photos, but for this challenge you have to
pick a prime on May 1st and only use that every day for the photos you submit.
The exception to this rule is Alejandra, since she does not have a prime. In
this case, Alejandra will take all of her photos at 30mm using her zoom lens.
3.) - This is a challenge, so you have to challenge yourself :) For this reason,
only 6 photos will be allowed of your home/work (things inside of your
home/work, your front yard, your car, your office, your plants in the garden,
etc.) Get out and take some photos, take a walk! If you run out of ideas and
have no time, take a photo on your way to a grocery store, take a photo when you
eat lunch/dinner, take a photo at a gas station, take a photo at your gym, etc.
Be creative! No more than 1 photo each of: your pet, yourself, your
car/motorcycle, your husband/wife/gf/bf/kids. Update: Ok, I know some of you are
really busy, if you take more than 6 photos of these subjects try to be as
creative/different as possible.
4.) - Every other photo must be at the maximum aperture of your prime (if you
use a 50mm f1.4, the photo has to be at f1.4, if you use a 35mm f1.8, the photo
must be at f1.8, etc.). The reason we buy fast primes is because they are fast,
let's use that. Every other photo can be at any aperture you want. Lets say on
odd days (May 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) you use the maximum aperture. On even days
(May 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) you can use whatever aperture you want.
5.) - This is not a contest, the whole point of this challenge is to start
thinking a bit differently about photography, to challenge yourself and to have
fun!
6.) - Have Fun!!
When you take your picture for the day, please email it to me. Please resize it to 900 pixels (900 wide for horizontals, 900 tall for verticals). I will post the photos and update the page every day.
Minor editing is allowed to some point, contrast, white balance, dodge, burn, sharpen, etc. Please no cloning, deleting items from the photo or cropping. We are using primes, composition is key in this challenge. Cropping is like zooming, if we wanted to allow that this would be zoom challenge :)
Please name the photos with you name, followed by the date. For example
my photo from May 5th would be named: phillip_05
If you would like to have a name/title/location for your photo, write that in the email when you send me you picture and I will post it. Also write the f-stop that you used if you would like that included.
